Education in Wakarusa

Education in Wa-Nee is focusing on preparing students for the 21st Century.

Two new elementary schools, Wakarusa Elementary School of Wakarusa and Woodview Elementary School at Nappanee, were opened in August 1992. The outside of each building resembles a home. The pitched roofs blend in with the neighborhood to give an overall residential look, rather than an institutional feel. The inside of the these new buildings are elegant, yet functional. Many features make the schools comfortable, conducive to learning and able to send students well prepared into the 21st. century.

The Wakarusa School was built in 1924 and was Kindergarten through 12 grade. Later on in 1970 NorthWood High School was built. NorthWood High School was renovated again in 1994. In 1993 Wakarusa Elementary School was built.

The NorthWood Middle School now houses the 6th, 7th and 8th. Graders. It was renovated in 1950, 1953, 1973 and 1995. The name was changed from the Wakarusa Middle School to the NorthWood Middle school after the last renovation.

The Wakarusa Elementary School was built in 1993.

NorthWood High School opened its doors for the school year 1969-1970. It was renovated in 1995 to bring it up to date to accommodate our students and to get them ready for the 21st century.
